Jamie Hughes Wins Fish North 2022
Jamie Hughes becomes the Fish North 2022 champion picking up the trophy and a cool £12,000.
The final took place at Forest Lane Fisheries on the MKM Arena Lake which is home to Fish North. It was a colder day with a cold wind compared to the previous finals, but the fishing did not disappoint. Drawing an unfavoured peg 5, Jamie got off to a fantastic start in the match putting a considerable weight together before it slowed down in the next few hours. He managed to pick up odd fish still to keep his weight building and put himself in a great position towards the last hour.
Other runners on the day, saw Lee Thornton and Rob Swan put up a late surge, but the early damage from Jamie was done as he managed to put himself in a great position come the all-out.
The weigh-in was another tense affair, as nobody really knew who could challenge Jamie, his weight of 230lb 5oz set the benchmark. Lee Hellawell on peg 5 managed to put 187lb 14oz together, followed by plenty of high 100lb weights. Matty Dawes over on peg 11 caught well but his 192lb 13oz was still far off Jamie’s weight. The rest of the field all had 100+ weights with the lowest weight on the day being 104lb 8oz, so plenty of bites for all the anglers.
After the last weigh-in of Fred Woodhouse on peg 29, it was confirmed that we had a new champion for 2022.
The top 3 on the day:
- 1st Jamie Hughes – Peg 3 – 230lb 5oz
- 2nd Matty Dawes – Peg 11 192lb 13oz
- 3rd Lee Hellawell – Peg 5 – 187lb 14oz
Congratulations to Jamie Hughes, who fished a superb match making the early fish count.
